AI gives us the chance to redesign how we build products around outcomes. Applying it to every stage of the existing software development lifecycle would preserve too many assumptions from a world where implementation was expensive.
Aviv Ben-Yosef's read on engineering leadership in 2026 is that the fundamentals held and the companies that removed managers because of AI regretted it. I agree, and I think the industry has found a quieter way to make the same mistake: keep the managers, hand them a coding agent, and fill every hour they had for judgement and for noticing people.
